What is SO special about salsa dancing, it often makes us wonder? We dress up and go to clubs, to dance along with a massive crowd, finding ourselves immersed in a new form of culture. Dancing in clubs can be similar to yoga. Yoga, now famous in our society, was somehow understood as a form of exercise. But its more...It's a path to harmonise one’s body and mind. Meditation in yoga, like a tantric dance associated with Hindu God Shiva and his consort, can be like Tai Chi. Iit can also be salsa and moving to hip-hop beats if you really feel and engulf yourself in the dance. Salsa is a rhythmic movement of your body and, that of your partner’s body to a unique beat, of a particular song.
If you have ever danced you will know the joy it brings back. This is because it’s a way to focus on just one thing ‘movement’, this way the mind works in conjunction to your body. Music acts as an agent to enhance this movement. Just as the purpose of saying Oom whilst meditating, is to vibrate your whole body making them more sensitive and relaxing. The beat that is thrown out of those huge speakers, if you have noticed, makes our entire body vibrate, the base of the music pounds your heart. Serving the same purpose as Oom while meditating.
Now coming back to my question. Dance has become a part of our social life. Music, movement and the beat that takes us to a different level of trance, has been and always be a part of human existence. I think that is where the famous phase ‘let loose’ while you dance comes from!
After giving good reasons as to why one should go dance, if you would really like to have a first-hand experience, then I recommend our Tuesday night at the Honey Club, Brighton.
